Project  :  Water and Infrastructure
Location  :  Dubai, United Arab Emirates
Client  :  Artelia|Strabag|DEWA

Services Provided: Design, Design Validation, Engineer of Record and Traffic Access Study

The proposed hydroelectric power plant is the first of its kind in the Middle East, with 250MW Power generation capacity utilizing water stored in existing dam/reservoir with a storage capacity of 1,716 million gallons. The project includes construction of an upper dam/reservoir with water storage capacity of 880 million gallons. During off-peak hours, pumps will use solar and conventional energy to pump water from the lower dam/reservoir (existing) to the upper dam/reservoir. During peak-load hours, reversible turbines, operated by the speed of waterfall from the upper reservoir, will be used to generate electricity. Generated electricity will be connected to DEWA’s grid.

The scope of works includes design validation and engineer of record for MEP requirements of the ancillary buildings. JCE is also involved in the infrastructure design of the project such as the tunnels and associated MEP work, roads within and out of the right of way. A dedicated utility corridor was reserved for the power transmission and distribution systems, road lighting and associated civil works.
